Lancashire beat Northamptonshire by 13 runs on Saturday night to win the T20 blast for the first time. Despite a spirited fightback by Nortahnts’ Shahid Afridi, Lancashire were always ahead of the run rate and spinners Parry and Lilley produced a controlled and accurate performance to seal victory for Lightning.
Lancashire had been considered outsiders by many at the start of the day, with several online bookmakers quoting odds of up to 10/1 on them to win. That means that if you had bet on Lancs to win with any good cricket bookmaker on Saturday morning, you would have pocketed an impressive £200 from a £20 bet. This would certainly have paid for a nice night out to celebrate the win.
James Faulkner is one player who would have appreciated a couple of drinks to numb the pain. He dislocated his finger, had it put back in place by the physio, and then played on. Faulkner finished with figures of 2-25 and was the competition’s joint top wicket taker.
